Why do they Celebrate it every May 9?
- Tokyo Ice Cream Association now called Japan Ice Cream Association started the event on May 9(The day after the Golden week) 1964 the year when Tokyo Olympic were held. They began to celebrate it as a start of Summer season and wished The consumers to buy a lot of Ice Creams from this day.
- Some places in Japan are giving away the ice cream for free. Baskin-Robbins Japan are offering 100yen per scoop.
